The Shift Up For Rwanda support association run by Vogt mountain bike pro Daniel Gathof aims to help disadvantaged children and young people in the African country.

The Shift Up For Rwanda charity was founded at the end of 2022 by professional cyclist Daniel Gathof and photographer Don Ailinger after participating in the Rwanda Epic, a mountain bike stage race. The association has set itself the goal of giving disadvantaged children and young people in Rwanda access to education and a start in professional life through cycling. To this end, the association supports the Twin Lakes Cycling Academy in Musanze with financial and material donations.

Florent Nsengumuremyi, founder of the Twin Lakes Cycling Academy (TLCA), was left to fend for himself as a street child as a result of the genocide, but was able to make his way with the help of others and a bicycle. Through his academy, he is now giving this opportunity to others by getting children off the streets and back to school through cycling. Gathof and Ailnger got to know the African and his story at the Rwanda Epic. Last summer, Didier Munyaneza (coach of the TLCA) came to Europe – and with Gathof scored the first marathon world ranking points for an athlete from the African country.

hift Up For Rwanda presents itself to the public for the first time on Friday (7.30 pm) at the Kapuziner Kreativzentrum Ravensburg. Pictures from the Rwanda Epic will be shown, as well as the history of the TLCA and the aims of the association.
