Shift up a gear
Rwanda is a country with a troubled history. The 1994 genocide killed countless people and left orphans in its wake. Florent Nsengumuremyi, one of the few lucky survivors of his family, was no exception. Thanks to the kindness of an old man, he was given a bicycle, giving him access to education and a brighter future. It was a moment that changed his life forever.
In 2019, he founded the Twin Lakes Cycling Academy to provide these very opportunities to disadvantaged children.
Since 2022, we at Shift Up For Rwanda have been supporting this initiative with financial and material donations, campaigns, and ongoing dialogue and visits on the ground.
Supporting
We support young cyclists in Rwanda through cash and in-kind donations. Our support goes directly to the Twin Lakes Cycling Academy to give young talent access to resources and training opportunities.
Education
Our commitment also extends to supporting the education of disadvantaged children and young people in Rwanda. Our long-term goal is to build a school that will enable these young people to escape poverty.
Promote
We actively support the Twin Lakes Cycling Academy and similar organisations in Rwanda to give children and young people access to cycling. By providing equipment and taking part in competitions, we help to develop talent and open up opportunities.
Community
Our organisation is a community of people committed to the same cause: promoting education and sport in Rwanda. We work together to make a positive difference in the lives of those who need our help the most.
